‘SPRAY BRUSH’ 10TH ANNIVERSARY: GRAFFITI & STREET ART THAILAND EXHIBITION EVENT | EXHIBITION, LEVEL 4 CENTRAL: THE ORIGINAL STORE 18 OCT ’24 – 17 NOV ’24
EXHIBITION CONCEPT
Debuted in 2015 and on the way to celebrate its 10th anniversary, ‘Spray Brush’ is an online media platform aimed at covering the happenings in the realm of graffiti and street art both in Thailand and worldwide through websites and online magazines. This exhibition in particular showcases graffiti and street art pieces of Thai artists from both early and later generations under concepts that reflect their unique identities, work experience and techniques.
It is now a common understanding that graffiti or street art is a distinct art form with uniqueness in form, creation process, feeling and perspective, all of which set it apart from the other art forms, especially in terms of history where it has never been faced with as much praise or positivity as them. Early graffiti was a way to express emotions and feelings, through letters and words such as one’s own name, curse words and explanations, as well as characters intended for protest and satire. Nowadays, however, as graffiti has become more accepted by wider populations of different socioeconomic backgrounds, it has evolved into ‘street art’; an art form of not only letters but also cartoon characters, realistic characters and graphic patterns.
Now is a great chance for Thailand to present in an art exhibition graffiti works and the graffiti culture to the public so they may know, understand and appreciate graffiti to the fullest.
“We may have never understood it. Sometimes we try, but we still don’t get it.”
“Sometimes we think we’ve finally understood it, but what we do still shows that we haven’t.”
“Or maybe we simply don’t care. The meaning is still the same.”
“Or perhaps we never like it at all… And graffiti doesn’t care whether anyone would like or understand it.”
