The appearance of the characters is implying social confinement, repressed emotion and hidden expression. She mainly play with the mood & tone to sway their feelings while adding all the little details to keep them adorable and not too gloomy. 

“No matter how lonely you are, it’s not only you who feels this way. You’re truly not alone.”
