CHAMBER OF FAITH: IN FAITH WE TRUST A SOLO ART EXHIBITION BY ‘BIGDEL’ CENTRAL SPACE, LEVEL 3 CENTRAL: THE ORIGINAL STORE 18 OCT ’24 – 17 NOV ’24
EXHIBITION CONCEPT
Roughly twenty five years ago, underground art forms such as letter spray-painting, also known as ‘graffiti,’ began to spread from the west to Asia before eventually reaching Thailand. Back then, the concept of ‘Graffiti and Thailand’ was still new, raw, unacceptable and essentially unknown. The graffiti in Thailand as we know it today began with only a few pioneers, one of which is BIGDEL or Dale Horgan, the most influential and celebrated graffiti writer in Thailand. He worked with his old school graffiti fonts for over 25 years, then as things changed in later years he started adding a number of cartoon characters to his font works, resulting in the perfect culmination of his graffiti, illustration, pop art and mixed media art styles. Blending with great success, these styles explore a number of contemporary Thai viewpoints, concepts, beliefs and faiths. During the past 4-5 years, his works have always been given unique presentations, giving him recognition as one of the most interesting contemporary graffiti artists in Thailand.
Here is his latest solo exhibition with the gallery of Central: The Original Store where you can enjoy a whole new collection of his works made with a number of materials and techniques–plaswood, canvas, printmaking, spray-painting, mixed media and installation–all under the concept of faiths and beliefs in the modern world.
